Dear Friends and Family,
Just over 2 years ago, I packed up my things and left my life as a missionary to the people of England. The 2 years that I spent on the field was a wonderful, challenging adventure! Though my life is different now that I'm back in America, my heart for missions continues to grow. My passion for working with teenagers (especially young girls) will always be part of my life – no matter where I am.
Currently, I am the Assistant Director of Admissions Marketing at Florida Christian College (FCC) in Kissimmee, Florida. I LOVE my job! One of the things I love most about my job is that I get to be around inspiring college students every day. I have heard from many of these students over the past couple of years about a trip our college has been taking to Cambodia each summer to educate themselves about human trafficking and the efforts being produced to combat such evils.
Nearly 2.5 million people are trafficked (sold into modern-day slavery) each year. Somewhere between 1-1.5 million of these people are children. Due to extreme poverty, many of these children are unknowingly sold into slavery by their own parents. According to Rapha House, “...both small children and teenagers are often tricked, coerced, or sold into prostitution, pornography, or forced labor...child prostitution is especially heinous because the traumatic experiences these children endure often require a lifetime of counseling and healing.” Rapha House, with their motto “Love, Rescue, Heal” is a safe place for the young girls of Cambodia.
Human trafficking should NOT exist. It should make us angry. It should make us want to do something about it. After a lot of prayer, I have decided to go to Cambodia for 2 weeks this summer (April 29-May 13, 2012) with a team from FCC. I feel that God is telling me that this is an important next step for me to take. I would be honored to visit these beacons of light in the darkest places of Southeast Asia to educate myself about the problem and begin to more clearly see what I can do to help.
